Cruising to Victory

Football fever is spreading rapidly around Merstham and the surrounding area and is expected to reach epidemic proportions over the next couple of weeks as Merstham FC attempt to achieve an historic double by winning both the Surrey County Cup Final and promotion to the Ryman Premier League.
The Cup Final will take place at the Kingfield Stadium in Woking on Wednesday May 6th, but first of all it’s a matter of taking the team who play in amber, on a coach trip down to either Folkestone or Faversham in the Play-off Semi Final on Tuesday the 28th April.
And they’ve chosen to make both journey’s by travelling in style in an amber coloured coach no less.
Cruisers, who are based in Redhill, will be supplying the 6 month old Plaxton Leopard to take the Merstham FC team and Directors, as well as any other supporters who are wanting to travel, to both of the prestigious matches as well as the Play off Final should they get through.
“It’s a perfect match for us” said Richard Baxter, the Merstham club secretary.
“With two big games and possibly a third to play away from the Moatside, we want the opposing teams to know that we mean business and we intend doing a professional job of putting them to the sword.
That starts from the moment we set foot on our amber Cruisers coach which will be carrying the Merstham FC name. We want local people who are not yet fans to see us leaving Merstham on our great adventure, but most importantly we want people in the towns we will be visiting, to see us arrive”.
And see them arrive they certainly will. Because the amber coloured coach is absolutely striking!
“We’re pleased to be supplying the Official Team Coach for Merstham FC for their two most important games of the season and we want them to feel like Premiership players on the day. So on our part we’re providing them with a brand new 57 seat coach in the team’s amber and black colours”, said Paul Halligan, General Manager at Cruisers.
“Success for the team can only be good for the town in general and I know how true this is, having spent four seasons in the Commercial Department at AFC Bournemouth in the late nineties. In my first season the Cherries reached Wembley in the Football League Trophy.
We didn’t win but that game gave the whole town a taste of success and what the team could possibly achieve in the future.
And just look at the top of the Championship table today. “All of us at Cruisers are wishing Merstham FC the very best of luck and we look forward to taking them to away games next season when hopefully they will be playing in the Ryman Premier League”.
Cruisers will be laying on further coaches to both of the games if the demand is there. If you would like a ticket for either game, please call Richard on 07720 290027.
