Canterbury’s Whitefriars is the largest shopping centre in East Kent and is packed full of shops, restaurants, pop-up markets and is home to some truly unique speciality shops including Tiger a Danish retailer specialising in home ware, stationery and toys.
There are also a host of weekly general markets in Canterbury (Wednesday & Friday), Whitstable (Thursday) and Herne Bay (Saturday) and regular Farmer’s markets every two to three weeks.

If you are looking for midday refreshments whilst on a day trip then you will find you are spoilt for choice when it comes to tea shops or cafe’s. If you are really looking for a treat then you should look no further than The Moat Tea Rooms. Located in a beautiful 15th century building they offer homemade cakes, scones, soup & lunches available to also takeaway.
You’ll also find the annual Canterbury Food & Drink Festival giving you the chance to try new things and enjoy fresh local produce. This is normally held in September over a 3 day period and is home to over 100 traders.

Attractions
Canterbury really is a very lively City with lots going on at any one time. There are lots of fairs and festivals, family days,
live music and workshops and talks. It’s also home to plenty of arts and cultural events.
For day trippers there is no shortage of events to visit and often more than one event can be taken on any given day. From antique fairs to vintage tea days and the seafront procession is well worth a look over at Whitstable Bay.
If a theatre trip is up your street then Canterbury really does deliver. From the famous Playhouse Theatre in Whitstable to the Curzon in Canterbury taking in the joys of theatre or catching an independent film can make for a great day out.
